Enfield Work Experience works in partnership with Enfield Training Services (ETS) by providing work placements for their students.

Enfield Training Services (ETS) is a training provider based in Enfield that has been running work-based learning programmes for young people aged 16 – 25 since 1983 (also known as modern apprenticeships).

ETS students need office and hair salon placements as part of their vocational courses - NVQs in Business Administration and Hairdressing.

These can be short two week work placements or longer work placements of one or more days a week over an extended period of time.

If you would like to help by offering an office or hairdressing placement to one of these students please contact us.

Hairdressing - Free Training and Help with Recruitment for Salon Owners

If you already have a hairdressing apprentice aged 16-18 who has left school, Enfield Training Services can provide free training for them to NVQ Level 2.

If you need a hairdressing apprentice Enfield Training Services can help you find one. They come into contact with many young people looking for a career in hairdressing and can arrange for them to contact you. If you would like help in finding an apprentice please contact us.

ETS also offers another route into employment for young people interested in a career in hairdressing which can provide you with recruitment opportunity:

1) You offer the student a two week work placement initially

2) If you both agree, you can continue the placement for another ten weeks on a part or full time basis.

3) You can then decide whether to continue with the placement for a year (full or part time) during which time the student will attend the ETS Academy on day release for training to NVQ Level 1.

ETS will pay the student a training allowance throughout their time with you until completion of their NVQ Level 1.

Business Administration

Enfield Training Services also provides training in Business Administration and IT to NVQ Level 1 and 2. This course combines work experience with study and lasts from 6 months to a year.

If you can offer a work placement for one of these students please get in touch with us. We need both short term, two week placements as well as longer term placements of one day or more a week over several months.

Success Story - ETS Student Lisa Fidler

Lisa chose office work for her work experience in January 2003 as part of her GNVQ Business Studies course. Three years later is still working there as part of the team.

“I was a bit nervous on the first day of my work experience but as the two weeks went on I got more confident and at the end of my placement I enjoyed it very much”.

When her school Work Experience Co-ordinator realised how much she had enjoyed working there they contacted Enfield Work Experience to see if Lisa might be offered a job. Lisa also volunteered to come and do more work experience during her school holidays. Six months after her initial work experience Lisa joined Enfield Work Experience as a permanent employee in June 2003.

Her job now involves helping hundreds of other students each year by liaising with other work experience offices outside of Enfield.

When asked how work experience had helped her into work Lisa said:

“It gave me the opportunity to gain an insight of what it was like to go out to work, and to work in an office. I got to meet new people and help them with their work which built my confidence”.

“I found it easier to concentrate in the office than at school because the atmosphere was calmer and there were less people around me. At school it is sometimes noisy and there can be a lot of distractions”.

Since joining Enfield Work Experience Lisa has also been attending Enfield Training Services one day a week. She has achieved an NVQ Level 2 in Administration and was recently presented by the Mayor of Enfield with her certificate for an NVQ in Key Skills.

“I would recommend employers to offer work experience because it gives them the opportunity to help students, gives the students an idea of work and helps the students gain experience and learn new skills. After their work experience is finished the students can then use the experience and skills to benefit other companies.”
